Offensiveness vs. Compliance
Not to sound completely ignorant, but why are so many people still making such a fuss about CEO Mike Jeffries?
Was what he said inappropriate? Yes.
Is he making himself come off like a complete douche bag? Yes.
But for so many open-minded Americans to be upset over his statements, I’m just not too sure about it. Yes I agree that what he said was probably not one of his smartest marketing tactics, but in all honesty and as many of you know it was an extremely bold move.
While many are deciding to boycott Abercrombie & Fitch because “They just don’t fit in” How many of those boycotters actually purchased clothing from his company in the first place? Although his statements were illy thought out and extremely controversial, Jeffries might have just come up with a new up selling tactic. Offensiveness vs. Compliance.
As soon as Mike Jeffries’ words bombed themselves into the media, how many teenage girls probably peed themselves from being able to fit into Abercrombie jeans while all the others who couldn’t decided that they needed to lose weight to do so…
And not to be completely insensitive to those who will strongly disagree with this post, I understand why you feel upset.. because a grown man has spoken out of ignorance about a specific brand targeted for “in-crowds” but that’s his own loss.. Many other stores carry larger sizes and are even targeted for different sizes other than what he’s looking for and they’re still just as.. if not more stylish than Abercrombie products. Don’t let an over-tired brand overcome you.
